Teens Grades 6-12: Volunteer at the Library!

Volunteer at the Library! The Children's Services Department is looking for reliable young people entering Grades 6 through 12 to help at the Library. All scheduling is done through our online volunteer calendar. If you are unable to attend a volunteer activity that you are registered for, please cancel your registration through the calendar or by calling the Children's Services Desk at 708.422.8522, ext. 136.

Below are some other volunteer options that are safe to perform during the COVID-19 pandemic. Unfortunately, these volunteer activities are not currently available to court-ordered volunteers. Complete this Google Form.

Activity #1

Meals on Wheels cards

Create  colorful greeting cards with positive messages for senior citizens who receive Meals on Wheels.  Drop your card off in the Activity Room.  Ms. Black will drop your cards off to the Evergreen Pak Office of Citizens Services.

You will earn 1 hour of service.

Activity #2 

Operation Gratitude

Write a letter to express your gratitude for those who serve our country in the military and first responders. Read all about this program below. Visit the Activity Room and help yourself to letter writing supplies. Drop your letter in the Operation Gratitude Mailbox. If you can’t make it to the Library, just email a word document with the email subject Operation Gratitude to Ms. Black at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and she will print and post your letter. 

You will earn 1 hour of service.


Activity #3

Food Drive for the Village Pantry

Organize a food drive for the Evergreen Park Village Pantry with friends or a school club. Contact the Office of Citizen Services with your plan. 


Activity #4


Here is a repository  for teens to tell their volunteer stories during the pandemic. Evergreen Park Public Library is a community partner for this campaign. So, tell us about your project and we will assign volunteer hours. Submit your story o #WeWereHere Project. 

Activity #5

Assist Senior Citizens with outdoor work

The Evergreen Park Youth Department offers opportunities for snow shoveling and light outdoor work for Evergreen Park residents. Contact Director Pyeisha Allen and she will arrange your volunteer project. 

Activity #6


Review  books, movies, music, or games for the Library. Think of an engaging movie trailer - you want to hook the audience but you can’t give too much away! You have two options; submit a video (30 seconds to 2 minutes in length) or a written piece. Your submission will be shared with teens on @epplteens Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook.

Activity #7

TikTok BookTok

Create a 60-second TikTok BookTok for the Epplteens TikTok account. Remember you want people to read the book based on your video! Just email your video to Mary Black at blackm@evergreenparklibrary. Be sure to include your name, book title, and author.
