Director of the Evergreen Park Public Library
The Board of the Evergreen Park Public Library is looking for an energetic and innovative Director. The ideal candidate will possess business acumen, show flexibility when necessary, advocate for the Library, and build on the strengths of an excellent staff. The suburb of Evergreen Park, located adjacent to Chicago and 11 miles south of downtown, offers a small-town community feel. The village Library serves an increasingly diverse population of 19,479 from an up-to-date, 23,000 square foot facility with an annual operating budget of almost $1.4 million. The Library employs 9 full-time and 14 part-time staff members. Key to this role is demonstrating the importance of and commitment to being the face of the Library in the community.
The Director reports to a 7 member, elected Board of Trustees. Minimum qualifications for the position include a Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program, 5 years of related work, and 3 years of supervisory experience. The candidate must have highly-developed interpersonal skills, experience promoting services to stakeholders, awareness of municipal library budgeting and fiscal matters, and strong leadership capabilities. They must provide the proper setting for the recruitment, development, and evaluation of patron-centered employees and maintain a healthy environment where staff can produce their best work. They must possess an appreciation for and an understanding of customer service with a focus on "getting to yes." They must also have top-notch communication and listening skills and set a good example for professional development through attendance of workshops, conferences, and continuing education. As liaison to the Evergreen Park Public Library Foundation, they will participate in events outside of the regular work week and know the importance of leading by example. The Director will also take charge of implementing the Library's strategic plan.
This is a full-time, exempt position with an annual salary starting at $70,000, based on experience. The Library also offers a benefits package including participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund.
