Computers for Public Use
The Evergreen Park Public Library has 12 Internet workstations with Microsoft Office for public use. The Youth Services Department has 6 computers with educational software and Microsoft Office. There are 6 laptops available for loan inside the library. The entire facility has wireless connectivity.

The library's computers are designated for specific purposes to provide efficient and equitable service for users. Librarians may deny use of the computer to anyone using it for purposes other than those designated by the library. Library staff may offer basic assistance to users as time permits, but cannot offer personal instruction in the use of computer software. Users should possess adequate training for proper use of computer equipment. 

Use of the computers is on a first-come, first-served basis, no reservations. Only two users may sit at a workstation at one time. A parent is welcome to sit with his child while using the Internet. An adult must accompany children under age 6.

Fees
There is a charge of $1.00 per one-half hour or fraction therof for using the library's computers, paid in advance. The fee is waived for Evergreen Park residents with a valid Evergreen Park Library card free of fees or fines. There is no charge to use the computers in the Youth Services Department.

Internet Use and Word Processing Computers
Users access the Internet through unfiltered terminals and are subject to policy outlined in the Evergreen Park Public Library Internet Use Procedures. The computers can be used up to 3 hours per day, in one-hour sessions. Sessions can be consecutive as long as no one is waiting to use the computer, but you must log on again after each session ends.

Laptops for Public Use
Laptop users must be 18 years of age or older. Laptops can only be checked out to the user's library card, which must be in good standing. Each user must leave a valid form of identification (Driver's license, State ID, or Military ID) with the Circulation Staff. A child under the age of 18 who is viewing content on the laptop must be in the company of a parent or legal guardian. Laptops can be used in the library only, on a first-come, first-served basis. You may use the laptop up to 3 hours per day, in one-hour sessions. Sessions can be consecutive as long as no one is waiting to use the laptop, but you must log on again after each session ends. Laptops shut down 30 minutes before the library closes.

The SWAN Online Catalogs
The SWAN online catalogs show not only the collection of the Evergreen Park Public Library, but materials from 76 libraries in the south and west suburbs belonging to the Metropolitan Library System. You can reserve library materials directly from the computer, view your library record, and renew items online. Printing is not available from the online catalogs.

Online Research Computer
The Online Research Computer located in the library provides access to online resources or web sites that have been selected by library staff. This computer does not provide open Internet access. It is available on a walk-up basis.

Printing
Printing may only be done on library-supplied paper, with the exception of resume printing. Black and white prints cost 10 cents per page. Color printing costs $1.00 per page. Data may be saved to a portable storage device or email account. A flash drive or memory stick is recommended. You cannot save to the desktop, and all user files are deleted when the computers are shut down.

Printer Directions for Home or Wireless Use
You can send your documents to the Print Release Station in the Adult Services department over the Internet from your home computer or from wireless devices within the library.

1.   On the Internet, go to www.printspots.com/library-eppl.

2.   Click [Use this Printer].

3.   Use the [Browse] button to look for your document on the computer, or type 
      (or copy and paste) the entire address of the web page you wish to print.

4.   In [Network ID] type your name, initials, or anything else that will help you to identify
      your item(s) at the Print Release Station at the library.

5.   Choose the orientation, number of copies, and document type.

6.   Click the flashing [Print] button on the right, and it will confirm that your
      document has been sent to the printer at the library. Print jobs expire and are
      deleted from the Print Release Station after 4 hours.
